Afrikaans is the home language of 5 983 426 people in South Africa. Most of these people (41,8%) live in the Western Cape and in Gauteng (21,2%).

C P Hoogehout, A Pannevis and S J du Toit are among the first translators of the Bible into Afrikaans.

In 1878 the first Book of the Afrikaans Bible was translated - Gospel according to Mark Never published but the manuscript is in the National Library of South Africa, Cape Town Division Translated by C P Hoogenhout
